CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT

Chiropractic treatment is based on the scientific fact that your nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body.  Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord, and millions of nerves. While your brain is protected by the skull, your spinal cord is protected by 24 moving bones of the spine.  Many everyday activities can cause these spinal bones to lose their normal position or motion.  This can result in nervous system dysfunction and ultimately, ill health.  The chiropractic approach to better health is to detect, reduce, and help prevent nervous system dysfunction.

An examination will reveal areas of your spine that are malfunctioning.  This often results in nervous system compromise, impairment to the muscle that support the spine, and damage to the soft tissue of the spine.  This may set in motion a degenerative process known as vertebral subluxation Complex.

Abnormal motion or position of the spinal bones (spinal kinesiopathology) can be caused by physical trauma such as improper lifting, car accidents, repetitive motions, and poor sleeping habits.  Emotional stress and chemical imbalances are common culprits too.

Abnormal Nervous System function (neuropathophysiology) can be caused by improper motion or position of spinal bones.  This abnormal motion / position can rub, irritate, pinch, or choke delicate nerves.  This can impair the function of the tissues, organs, and systems controlled by the nerves.

Abnormal muscle function (myopathology).  Muscles supporting the spine can weaken and atrophy, or become tight and go into spasm.  Unfortunately, scar tissue and adhesions penetrate these malfunctioning muscles, changing their elasticity.

Abnormal soft tissue function (histopathology).  Discs, ligaments, and other soft tissues can malfunction, too.  These important soft tissues have a poor blood supply, so proper healing often requires continued care even after the relief of obvious symptoms.

Abnormal function of the spine and body (pathophysiology).  When areas of the spine aren’t moving properly, the body responds with bone spurs and spinal decay, fusing malfunctioning spinal joints.  Degenerative (arthritis) changes can be seen in other organs and tissues which have been deprived of normal nerve control.

If you suffer from spinal problems causing neck pain, mid back pain, or low back pain, you very likely have one or all of the subluxation complexes described above.  Other symptoms of Vertebral Subluxation Complexes include headaches, sciatica, numbness, and/or tingling sensation, muscle pain, muscle spasm, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, elbow and wrist pain.

It should be very obvious that trauma from an Auto Accident or Sports Injury can and very likely will cause all five of the Vertebral Subluxation Complexes.  Sometimes injuries damage the ligaments so bad that they no longer hold the bones in place any longer.  This leads to abnormal motion, muscle spasm, tissue destruction and inflammation, and eventually spinal degeneration, also known as degenerative arthritis of the spine.

Chiropractic treatment should be your first choice if you experience any of the symptoms mention above.  Dr. Spickelmier has over twenty years of experience, and is very knowledgeable at treating all of the symptoms that happen as a result of Vertebral Subluxation Complexes.  If your conditioned can’t be helped be either chiropractic or nutrition therapy, then Dr. Spickelmier will refer you to the proper specialist who can.
